de.mo.graph.ic: relating to the dynamic balance of a population especially with regard to density and capacity for expansion or decline.
winter: a period of inactivity or decay.
This film will change the way you look at economics and your children.
The statistics are staggering. The United Nations estimate that if current trend continue, by 2050 there will be 248 million fewer children under the age of 5 then there are today. Over 59 countries around the world are now facing below replacement fertility.
Demographic Winter draws on experts from many countries and diverse disciplines: deomographers, economists, sociologist, psychologists, civic and religious leaders, parliamentarians and diplomats. The experts show:
1) The "population bomb" never detonated. Birthrates have fallen so low that even immigration cannot replace declining populations.
2) The economies of the world continue to contract as "human capitol" diminishes.
3) Government programs will slow-bleed, by the decrease in tax dollars. The ratio of retirees to young workers will bankrupt government pension programs.
4) Social engineering schemes have left children growing up in broken homes, with absentee parents. The psychological, sociological and economic consequences thereof are undeniable.
5) Our children and our children's children will bear the burden.
"We are at a new age where population growth comes from the people living longer, not from lots of births. What are the consequences of that? Economies cannot grow if populations shrink." -Dr. Allen C. Carlson, International Secretary of the World Congress of Families.
